Our Mission

Lost Cove Animal Sanctuary is dedicated to finding the very best homes for all our rescued animals.

Who We Are

We moved to North Carolina from Illinois with the idea that we would stop doing rescue. But soon it was realized, rescue is not a job, it’s a passion and it is hard to stop doing something you love!

Our first venture into the rescue life resulted in the creation of Illinois Doberman Rescue Plus in the Chicago area in 2003. In 2016, we moved to Yancey County to start a small coffee shop, Rescue Dog Cafe. While running the cafe, many people would ask for help or advice with their animals in one way or another. That is how Joe, the rooster, entered the picture. A woman asked if we could take Joe in as he was in a bad situation and his feet appeared to have frostbite on them. Joe opened the doors to the idea of a sanctuary for animals like him, who were not adoptable; however, we just couldn’t stop there. We decided to take in and adopt out dogs and cats as well. We then took it one step further helping our local community reduce the number of strays and unwanted animal pregnancies by providing financial support, for pet owners on limited incomes,  to alleviate or reduce the cost of spay and neuter surgeries.

In March of 2018, Lost Cove Animal Sanctuary was born.  While we are still in our infancy, but not new to the rescue world, we have already helped many dogs and cats in need.
